journals

For me, one of the most transformative healing experiences of my life, and the inspiration behind my journals, came was after the loss of my father. See, life has a way of throwing challenges at us when we least expect them. It wasn’t just his passing that was difficult; it was everything that came with it. In the aftermath, I found myself carrying a lot of heavy weight, not just from grief, but from the pressure to stay strong during a difficult time while feeling outraged and abandoned by the people I love. There were moments when it felt like I was walking through life in a nightmare, disconnected from everything, even from myself. It wasn’t just sadness, it was anger, a sense of betrayal, and the pain of unfulfilled expectations from my loved ones.

Two years went by, and I had carried that weight with me, anger, resentment, and unresolved emotions that left me constantly drained and disconnected from my soul. I felt like I was walking through life in a haze, unable to find peace. I knew that I couldn’t control others actions or whether they did what I believed was right. People make choices based on their own mindset and feelings, whether or not we agree with it. The only actions I could control were my own, and those actions affected me. While our actions can impact others, the emotions we experience are uniquely ours. No one else can feel them for us. Our thoughts affect how we feel, and our feelings affect our actions. When all are aligned, they shape our reality.

I knew all of this, yet I had to admit: holding on to resentment was still my choice. It was my decision, and only I had the power to let go and move forward.

The Breaking Point

When a moment of clarity came, I realized I could no longer live the way I had been and hold on to the negative feelings. The weight of negative emotions, old patterns, and destructive habits had drained me. I was exhausted, not just physically, but emotionally, from repeating the same mistakes and falling into cycles that led to more negativity. The realization hit me hard: change was necessary and it had to come from within. I needed to heal, not for anyone else, but for myself. The emotional baggage had become so heavy that I could no longer bear it. In that moment, the will to rise from the darkness awoke within me. I chose to take back control. I chose to heal to live the life I had always longed for, one of peace, love, and growth.

The Path to Healing

My healing journey started with simple but powerful self-care practices: daily exercise, meditation, affirmations, and being grateful. These weren’t new concepts to me. These simple tools have saved my life before and during this time, they became my lifeline once again.

Exercise helped me feel good, releasing tension and stress.

Meditation allowed me to find moments of stillness and clarity. Taking deep breaths during meditation allowed me to feel good in my own body.

Affirmations shifted my mindset by reprogramming the negative thoughts I’d been holding onto.

Counting my blessings kept me appreciative of the good things and people in my life.

I also returned to journaling, something I had always found therapeutic. However, my old journals were just blank pages. I often found myself flipping back and forth to locate my affirmations and my set intentions I always like reading. I read them daily to strengthen my mindset, to encourage me, and boost my motivation. But I realized I wanted something more organized, a journal that could bring all my practices together and reminded me to challenge myself to do them daily.

The Birth of Magia Blanca: The Magic Within Us All and The Magic Within: A Manifestation Journals

Three weeks into practicing these habits daily, my energy shifted completely. I felt lighter from the negative emotions, energized, more optimistic, deeply empowered, and ready to take on the world. This transformation inspired me to design a more organized journal that reflected the practices that had helped me so much.

I initially named it Magia Blanca, which means “white magic” in Spanish. It was the nickname my father gave me at birth. It was the name of a song by a Mexican band called Hermanos Carrión in the 60s in which my dad loved. The song was about a beautiful divine woman full of a thousand charms. This nickname, and the story behind it, has always been a special reminder of the love and admiration my father had for me. Naming my journal after this felt like the perfect way to honor the bond and the belief he had in my inner magic.

The most recent cover, titled The Magic Within carries the same essence to me. Magia Blanca represents the white magic inside all of us, the essential goodness and potential we each possess. When you truly connect with yourself, your soul, your spirit, that is the magic within.

I wanted a journal that combined:

  • A to-do list to break down big goals into manageable, actionable steps.
  • A space to set intentions to help focus on what matters to me most.
  • A space to let go of things that are not serving me for emotional release and personal growth.
  • Future goals to have clarity, vision, direction and commitment.
  • Scripting Manifestation pages to visualize my dreams and goals as if they’d already come true.
  • Pages for affirmations to reprogram my mindset.
  • A space for gratitude to enhance positivity, to keep me centered and thankful.
  • A daily checklist to help me build self-discipline and structure.

It started as a personal tool for my healing and growth. But since it has impacted me immensely, I realized it could help others too. That is when I decided to add guided prompts to help others think deeply and then self-publish the journals on Amazon. While it’s now available under both titles, Magia Blanca and The Magic Within with different covers, the content inside remains the same.

Why Journaling Matters

Journaling isn’t just about writing thoughts, it’s about having deep conversations with yourself, getting to know you, creating a sacred space for self-discovery, self-reflection, and intention. It’s a way to process life, express freely, and foster growth. Journaling has empowered me, provided clarity, and helped me understand my triggers. It has allowed me to process trauma and sort through my thoughts. Most importantly, journaling has helped me uncover what I truly feel deep down and what I truly want in my life.

Here are some benefits of the practices included into my journals:

Daily checklist: Encourage mindfulness and present-moment awareness.

To-do lists: Keep you grounded and focused, reducing overwhelm when you break down tasks.

Setting intentions: Helps you clarify what truly matters to you. They prevent distractions by aligning your actions with your goals and values.

Positive affirmations: Helps rewire your thought patterns and build confidence. It influences your mindset, emotions, and behavior.

Future goals: Setting goals strengths vision for the future. It acts like a roadmap, giving your life and actions a clear purpose.

Scripting manifestation: Allows you to visualize and bring clarity to your goals, turning dreams into actionable plans.

Gratitude journaling: Shifts your focus to the positives in your life, reduces stress, boost happiness, enhancing overall well-being.
