Choose Love — Then and Now

I wrote these words over twelve years ago during one of the most transformative times of my life. Back then, I was a single mother raising my daughter on my own, learning how to survive, heal, and believe again. I did not have much, but I had faith, and I had love. Looking back now, I see how every challenge became part of my journey to choose love then and now, a reminder that love was always the answer, even when life felt heavy.

Today, as I reread what I once wrote, my heart feels tenderness for that woman, for me then, who was determined to keep going no matter how heavy life felt. So much has changed since then, and yet, the essence of my message still rings true.

The Original Words That Still Hold Truth

When I speak about my past, it’s not because I haven’t let go. It’s because I want you to understand what I have been through and what I have overcome.

When I speak about my success, it’s not to brag, but to show you that if I could get where I am now, despite my struggles, so can you.

I have come across many people who are or were going through tough times in life. Yes, life is tough, and I have been there. Sometimes life still hands me difficult cards, but there has not been a single situation I have not been able to overcome.

I am a single mother, and I could go on explaining how challenging that is, but maybe you can already imagine. I have been through abusive relationships, including one with my daughter’s father. I have been used, hurt, lied to, and cheated on. I have had little or no support from my family in the decisions I made. I have been jobless, and I have moved away from my family with no help from anyone. I have been alone, struggling, trying to make ends meet for my daughter and myself.

Everything I own, everything I have, I achieved on my own.

Many people now see me as this super happy person. Some even say they want my life. Let me tell you, it hasn’t been easy for me, but I was able to overcome it all the day that I chose to LOVE.

The Power of Choosing Love

Choosing to love was, and still is, the greatest choice of my life, but also the most challenging because of our struggles and tough life experiences. It’s easy to give up; sometimes it’s hard to be and feel happy, and it’s easy to worry about all the things that keep happening in your life. It’s hard to love others who have hurt you in many ways.

But when you choose love, everything changes. When you truly love, nothing else matters, and everything is possible.

I always knew there was something better in life. And there is.

So, learn to love life regardless of your struggles.
Make the best of every situation.
Take a moment to breathe, enjoy your day or a moment, and feel grateful.
Believe in yourself.
Forgive all that has hurt you.
Be grateful for the awesome people in your life.
Let go of negativity and make space for better.
Love yourself enough to walk away from what hurts.
Live a healthier life. Follow what makes you feel alive.
Be real with yourself and others.
Help others along the way. Inspire by being love.
Do things that come from your heart because it makes you happy, rather than expecting something back from what you give.
Love without expectations. Love unconditionally.
Be grateful for even the smallest things.
Do what fills your soul. Choose a hobby you enjoy. Let yourself be filled with nothing but happiness and love.

Have Faith. Believe. Be Grateful. Love.

Twelve Years Later — What Has Changed and What Remains

Back then, I called myself a successful single mother, and I still stand by that, but the meaning has evolved. My daughter is now twenty-one, out in the world, independent, and thriving. I am still a mom, still single, but I no longer see “single mother” as a struggle. It is a reflection of my strength and of everything I have built.

Since that post, my daughter and I have continued to share a healthy, strong, and amazing relationship. We have traveled around the world and gotten into rock climbing.

The relationships with the people I love have grown even stronger, and I continue to have the best friends I could ever ask for.

Kiteboarding is still one of my biggest passions. I still chase adventure and the beauty of nature. I have traveled alone around the world, and I even sailed to the Bahamas for two months with my best friend. I have now chosen the sober life, no drinking, no smoking, and I feel healthier, stronger, and more alive than ever before.

I have self-published a Reiki-infused guided journal, a tool to help people with alignment, self-discovery, and healing. I have also built my own website and business, something I dreamed of back then. I have been learning, building, and believing ever since.

This next chapter of my life is about creating from love. It is about sharing my stories, my healing, and my lessons, and helping others find their light through it all.

What I Know Now

Looking back, I see that choosing love was not a one-time decision. It is something you choose again and again.

Love is softer now. It is not about holding everything together anymore, but about making better, healthier decisions. It is about allowing life to flow and trusting that love and faith will always carry me through. It is about alignment. It is about choosing what is true and right for me, and having gratitude for every little thing in life.

If I could tell my younger self one thing, it would be this:
Things don’t get easier, but as long as you continue to choose love, choose yourself and have faith, you build resilience, self-trust, peace, freedom and alignment.

And So, My Message Remains

From someone who has walked through darkness and learned how to shine again and again, I say this with all my heart:

If I can do it, so can you.

Choose Love. Be Love. Live Love.
Never give up.
