London: My First True Solo Adventure

2025 Europe Travel Series: Part 3 of 8

Arrival in London

Arriving in London alone felt like crossing a line between who I’d been… and who I was becoming. This wasn’t just a stop on my 27-day Europe trip, it was my first true solo adventure, the one that pushed me to wander around a city on my own, trust my instincts, and figure things out one step at a time. I didn’t know exactly what to expect, but I knew I wanted the experience. And this time, I was doing it completely on my own.

June 20

I arrived in London Heathrow Airport around 8:20 p.m. a little nervous but determined to figure things out on my own. Figuring out transportation in a new country was like a mini-mission, and I definitely felt that rush of where do I go now? Although I did educate myself on transportation somewhat, it hits different when you are actually there.

I found the train, hopped on, talked to someone who told me I should’ve taken a different train… but honestly, I didn’t care. As long as I was in London, I was happy.

By the time I reached the city, I was tired, my period was coming, and all I wanted was rest. Instead of dealing with buses right away, I grabbed an Uber to my Airbnb, walked to the supermarket to get breakfast food, and called it a night.

It wasn’t glamorous, but it was real.
And it was the beginning.

Tower Bridge Day

June 21

I woke up with my period and definitely not feeling my best… but I wasn’t about to waste a day in London.

I walked over a mile to the Tower Bridge, the one place I promised myself I would see because of my aunt, who always told me London was her favorite place. It meant something to stand there, finally seeing what she saw.

I wandered around the Tower of London, grabbed some dinner, and eventually took my first bus back. The moment I used the bus successfully, and figured out the app, I felt something small click into place… like, okay, I got this.

Big Ben, Buckingham Palace & London Eye

June 22

I took the bus straight to the Big Ben… holding one of my aunt’s souvenirs in my mind the whole time. Seeing it in person felt surreal. It wasn’t just architecture. It was a memory, a promise kept.

From there I walked across Westminster Bridge, saw the London Eye, wandered through Queen Anne’s Gate, and continued to Buckingham Palace. All the gates, gardens, fountains… all the old architecture I love… it truly felt like stepping inside a movie set.

After a while, the cramps hit hard and I laid my blanket down in Green Park to rest and recharge.

Later that evening, I went to Hyde Park for a drum circle. I barely danced… my body didn’t have the energy, but I did move a little and it felt good to be in that space. Even though the people there were strangers, they were very welcoming and it felt like home.

A Quiet Day in the City

June 23

My body needed a full reset, so this day became my rest day. I went out only for dinner and caught a beautiful Big Ben sunset before heading back.

Sometimes adventure includes knowing when to slow down.

British Museum & Kyoto Garden

June 24

I spent the morning exploring the British Museum, but the highlight was the Reading Room’s dome… it felt magical, like stepping into a world filled with ancient wisdom. It reminded me of when I worked in a library at 17 years old. Something about books, silence, and old stories just feels like home.

Afterward, I escaped the city crowds and headed to the Kyoto Garden in Holland Park… the peaceful waterfall, the colors, the quiet… it was exactly what I needed.

I ended the day walking through Notting Hill, smiling at how familiar it felt from all the movies.

Sunrise Walk & Moulin Rouge Night

June 25

I woke up around 5 a.m., grabbed my journal, and walked to the Tower Bridge before the city woke up. The quiet was everything. Joggers, soft breeze, the river, it felt sacred in a simple way.

From there, I walked toward the London Bridge, passed Southwark Cathedral (which looked straight out of medieval times), wandered through old alleys, and walked through Borough Market and eventually made my way to The Breakfast Club for breakfast, a fun 80s-style diner.

Later that day, I visited Platform 9¾… a small Harry Potter moment to take a picture for my daughter.

In the evening, I met with Alley, one of my Airbnb roommates, a travel vlogger who unintentionally inspired me. Talking to her made something inside me spark. It was like a little reminder from the universe: your creative work matters, keep going.

She and I went to see Moulin Rouge that evening… and it instantly became one of the best musicals I’ve ever seen.

Departure Day

June 26

The next morning, I made my way back to the airport and headed off to Madrid.

London was everything I hoped for… the landmarks, the culture, the history, the early mornings, the crowded streets, the quiet corners. And for a first true solo adventure, it taught me more than I expected.
