Something to Strive For: Love, Growth, and Intention

First, I want to thank everyone who takes the time to read my blogs. I love sharing my heart through words and hope they inspire love, growth, and intention in your life. Writing reminds me that even small words of inspiration can make a difference. Journaling allows me to reflect deeply, learn and grow from my experiences, and express exactly how I feel. Sometimes I share these reflections in my writing. When I talk to people, I don’t always pause to think deeply; most times, I just say what comes to mind. But with writing, I can slow down, be intentional, and explore what I truly want to share with love, clarity, and purpose.

Since childhood, I’ve carried this belief that there is more to life than what I saw before me. Call me a dreamer, but I’ve always believed in happy endings. Yes, struggles are inevitable, but I’ve always pictured myself rising above them and finding that ‘happily ever after.’ By that, I mean living a life that feels truly fulfilling and aligned with my soul’s desire. That conviction has been my guiding light.

We each come from different backgrounds, beliefs, and struggles, yet as adults, we choose our own path and beliefs. And my choice has always been to believe in something better, in love, joy, and the possibility of a beautiful life. Because without love, what is the purpose of life? Life’s duality gives us two options: to live in misery, or to live in love. And I choose love.

“Meaning is not something you stumble across, like the answer to a riddle or the prize in a treasure hunt. Meaning is something you build into your life… You are the only one who can put it together into that unique pattern that will be your life. Let it be a life that has dignity and meaning for you.” – John Gardner

Love at the Center of Life

I am spiritual, but not bound by a specific religion. My heart tells me that every soul deserves the freedom to love who and what they love, to follow their passions, and to live authentically with intention. Life is too short to be confined by rules that strip away individuality, joy, and opportunities for growth.

To me, love is everything. It is creation, connection, openness, and the heartbeat of our existence. It builds, it bonds, and it allows us to be fully present and vulnerable with ourselves and with others. Without it, life feels empty. With it, life blossoms into new growth. Love is what allows us to grow, to live with intention, and to bloom into who we’re meant to be.

Love is more than a fleeting emotion, it’s a powerful energy that lights the soul. It is kindness, patience, generosity, honesty, loyalty, forgiveness, passion, and understanding. It brings peace and balance. Love is what makes life worth living.

“You grow stronger in the act of loving something. It sustains you. It generates energy. It is the soil of your faith.” – Unknown

Lessons in Pain

Over the years I’ve known both extraordinary love and profound pain. For a time, I felt resentment toward myself for the choices I made in trusting others with my heart. I was harder on myself than anyone else could be. I punished myself for being so open and vulnerable, for being so blind and naive when the truth was right in front of me. But in truth, the depth of my pain only revealed the depth of my love, the love I had given with my whole heart. Every experience, whether joyful or difficult, teaches us something about who we are and what we truly want. This experience showed me that pain is not just suffering. It is proof that we have loved deeply, and that love, even when it hurts, always leaves us stronger and opens doors to new growth.

This relationship also helped me see more clearly what I truly want in my life versus what I don’t. It highlighted the things I had been confused about and brought awareness to my values, boundaries, and desires. In the process, I learned to recognize what fulfills me and what doesn’t, and that understanding has been one of the greatest lessons I’ve gained from this experience. It taught me that growth happens most powerfully when we choose with intention, deciding who and what deserves our energy, rather than giving it blindly.

Lessons in Growth

I’ve also realized that much of my pain wasn’t caused by love itself, but by trying to protect it. Love is not something that only benefits others, the first one who is nourished by your love is always you. It fills you, sustains you, and then overflows into the lives around you. But when I believed I had given my love to the “wrong person,” I tried to stop feeling it, to turn it off toward them. In doing so, I didn’t just block love from them, I blocked it from myself. And in blocking my own love, I created my own suffering.

Love was never the enemy. Fear of losing it was. And the truth is, you can never lose the love that lives within you, you can only stop yourself from feeling it. It is in reflecting on these experiences that I see the importance of seeking a meaningful relationship in a world where pain and struggles are inevitable.

Choosing a Better Way

Through this journey, I’ve realized that for a long time I wasn’t being fully true to myself. I didn’t really know what I wanted, I was just moving through life. But pain became my awakening. Now, I am clear about my path, and I refuse to settle for less than the love, peace, and joy I deserve. Life will always have its chaotic moments and struggles, and for that very reason, I have even more reason to choose better, to act with intention, and to live with purpose.

While I continue to nurture myself, follow my passions, and live with intention, I remain open to the love and experiences the future holds for me. To me, this is not selfish, this is self-love. I work on being the best version of myself so that I can show up fully for others. The more I cultivate love within myself, the more I naturally share it with the people around me.

Choosing Unconditional Love

This is what unconditional love means to me. I don’t expect others to act a certain way or meet my expectations. I simply let them be who they are, allowing them to choose their own path while still caring for and loving them even sometimes from a distance.

When I honor and love myself as a sacred responsibility, I awaken to a deeper connection with the divine. From that fullness, the love I share flows effortlessly, pure, unconditional, and free from fear or attachment. True love also means honoring myself, knowing my worth, and keeping gentle boundaries that protect my energy while still allowing love to flow.

My compass is simple: live truthfully and walk in love. That means practicing kindness, patience, honesty, generosity, loyalty, forgiveness, and faith. That is the life I want, and that is the life I am creating, because no one else can choose it for me, only I can choose to stay open to it, and I owe it to myself.

Final Thoughts

Life is precious, fleeting, and filled with choices. Why not choose love and passion? Why not create a life of joy, growth, and intention?

Solitude has taught me to reflect, but love has taught me to live. And when you choose love, in all its forms, you choose the path that leads to peace, fulfillment, and a true ‘happily ever after,’ no matter what life throws at you.

Remember, you are the only one who can truly tune in to your own love. It is a love that nourishes you, never drains you, and naturally overflows to others without expectation.

“Life asks us to reflect, to love, and to grow, and in doing so, we discover what truly fulfills and aligns with our soul’s desires.” – Amariliz Gonzalez

This is also why I created my journals, to support a life lived with intention, healing, and self-discovery, helping you discover what truly fulfills and aligns with your soul’s desires. You can find all my journals [here].

So, my dear friends, never settle for less. Always choose love, growth, and intention because you, as much as anyone else, deserve a life lived with them.

With love,
Amariliz
