The Narrative We Tell Ourselves

For the past few months, I got out of my healthy routines and found myself slipping back into old unhealthy habits again.

I felt stuck in this loop.
And honestly, the narrative I kept feeding myself became negative. Even though some days I was up and some days I was down, I wasn’t grounded. I didn’t have balance.

The same things I preach… I wasn’t truly practicing for myself, at least not consistently.

The Unhealthy Loop

It’s funny how stress, uncertainty, life transitions, heartbreak, fear, exhaustion, or simply life itself can slowly pull us away from ourselves without us even realizing it. We stop doing the very things that keep us sane. The very things that reconnect us back to who we are.

And then the unhealthy loop begins.

Not because we’re weak.
But because we’re human.

I reached a point where I knew I couldn’t continue like that anymore. Not for my own well-being, and not if I truly want to live a healthy, fulfilling, rich life emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Starting Again

So I started again.

Journaling.
Affirmations.
Movement.
Exercise.
Healthier habits.
More awareness of my thoughts.
More awareness of myself.

And I’m still working on it. Slowly but surely. Some days are better than others. However, I know with consistency, I will feel a lot better and get to where I want to be.

The Stories We Tell Ourselves

But one thing I’ve noticed deeply through all of this is the incredible power of the mind… and the stories we constantly tell ourselves.

Because sometimes the damage isn’t only the circumstances themselves. Sometimes the damage is the narrative we become attached to.

I caught myself repeating thoughts I know are not even true. Yet somehow, when you repeat something enough in moments of stress or emotional exhaustion, your mind begins to believe it.

The Weight of Not Feeling Good Enough

One of the biggest ones for me was the feeling of not being good enough.

And when I really sat with that thought, I realized how unfair it was to myself.

Because if I look at my life honestly, life has shown me over and over again how capable I am. How resilient I am. How much love I carry within me. The deep passion I have for living, growing, creating, connecting, healing, and fully experiencing this life.

Why Do We Do This to Ourselves?

So why do we do this to ourselves?

Why do we hold onto narratives that hurt us?
Why do we speak to ourselves in ways we would never speak to someone we love?

Maybe it’s old wounds.
Old conditioning.
Fear.
Trust issues.
Past disappointments.
The pressure of transitions.
Or simply years of repeating stories we never stopped to question.

The Mind and Body Are Always Listening

But at some point, we have to become aware of the fact that the mind listens to what we repeatedly tell it.

And our body responds to it too.

The way we think affects our nervous system, our energy, our confidence, our motivation, our relationships, our choices, and ultimately the life we create for ourselves.

A negative narrative can quietly keep us small.
It can keep us stuck in cycles that no longer serve us.
It can make us abandon ourselves without even noticing.

Changing the Narrative

But changing the narrative can slowly change everything.

Not overnight.
Not magically.
But intentionally.

The moment we begin speaking to ourselves with more compassion, more truth, more awareness, and more grace, something shifts.

We start showing up differently.
We take care of ourselves with more intention.
Possibilities begin to feel real again.
And slowly, we remember who we are underneath the fear, the stress, the doubt, and the old stories.

And this is why I added an affirmation section in my journals so that we intentionally change the way we speak to ourselves.

Ending the War Within Ourselves

And maybe healing isn’t about becoming someone else.

Maybe it’s about finally stopping the war within ourselves.

All I know is that I’m tired of beating myself up.
And I’m very clear about what I want in my life.

Peace.
Health.
Alignment.
Love.
Purpose.
Connection.
Adventure.
Growth.

And I’m done being the one standing in my own way.
